Catching a Green Turtle

In order to tag and measure a sea turtle you first have to catch it. This is done using a special net which allows the turtle to still come to the surface to breathe. Once caught, the net is brought in, and then the turtle lifted into the boat.  Once in the boat, the net is removed and the turtle checked for existing tags. If no tags are present, it is tagged. It is also measured, before releasing back into the ocean.

The photo was taken in El Jobo Bay, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica, on the morning of January 13, 2025.
