The Almost Photo of the Week ...
As I've noted previously, choosing a photo of the week can be tricky, based on what I've shot during the arbitrary time frame I've chosen. For example, this past week, the following photo of a bald eagle could have easily garnered the spot:

After all, how often do we see bald eagles in this area? However, this past week, it didn't even make the first cut. The same walk along Alameda Creek that gave me that shot also produced the following shot:

Two snowy egrets, one minding its own business, the other about to interrupt the scene. As soon as I shot it, I knew it was going to be a memorable shot. It has action, great composition (look at those reflections!), and even some humor. An easy choice for photo of the week...
However, it wasn't. On Sunday, I went on an excursion with the Ohlone Audubon Society to the Hayward Regional Shoreline (actually located in San Lorenzo) and among the many shorebirds, I managed to get a great shot of a long-billed curlew in flight. Suddenly, that became the photo of the week:

So the two egrets became also-rans. However, I still love the shot and now it gets the recognition it deserves.
